about brighton and hove concert orchestra
Brighton and Hove Concert Orchestra was formed over fifty years ago by Kim Westlake-Bishop, and continues to specialise in performing light orchestral music such as popular classical, overtures and suites, and music from operetta, stage shows, film soundtracks, television and radio.
We are a friendly group of musicians who come together every week to rehearse in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. Our members come from all walks of life, and range in age from 16 to 90(!). Individual abilities within the orchestra range from those coming back to their instruments after a break and talented amateurs, to retired and ex-professional musicians. We perform three or four concerts a year in local venues.
The baton was handed over to Mike Lloyd many years ago and over the years Mike nurtured and grew the orchestra into the larger concert ensemble it is today. We provide entertainment for our audiences and are proud to assist in fundraising for local charities. We are always looking to play to new and larger audiences so please come along and support us. Check out our concerts page for details of our upcoming concerts and venues.
Very sadly Mike passed away at the beginning of 2013. He was always cheerful, full of enthusiasm and he dedicated a huge amount of his time to the orchestra. Mike will always be remembered with affection and gratitude.
Today the orchestra continues to grow and thrive in the very capable hands of Conductor, Graham Mussard, Leader, Hepzibah Sessa, and the committee.
